How Choosing Joy Built the Skimpies Community
Reflections from Amplify Founderverse
When I spoke at Amplify Founderverse, I didn’t come with a playbook or growth hack. I came with a truth that shaped everything I’ve built:
Skimpies didn’t go viral because of strategy. It went viral because of joy.
After my double mastectomy, joy wasn’t optional—it was necessary. I needed it to heal. I needed it to move forward. And without realizing it at the time, that desire for joy became the foundation of the most genuine community I’ve ever known: the Skimpies Sisters.
Connection Over Conversion
So many brands are built by treating customers like numbers—metrics to optimize, funnels to tweak, audiences to scale. I did the opposite.
I showed up live.I talked honestly.I listened.
I didn’t sell at people—I built with them.
What grew wasn’t just a customer base. It was a relationship rooted in a shared need for joy, comfort, and feeling seen. That connection is why Skimpies became one of the most viral brands of 2025—not through paid ads, but through trust.

Live Selling as Community Building
Live selling wasn’t a tactic for us. It was a meeting place.
It’s where we laughed, talked about real bodies and real lives, answered questions in real time, and showed up imperfectly—but authentically. Live became the heartbeat of the brand because it allowed us to be human together.
People don’t want to be marketed to.They want to belong.
Joy Is a Strategy
What I shared at Amplify Founderverse is this: joy scales when it’s real.
You can’t manufacture it. You can’t outsource it. And you definitely can’t fake it. Joy comes from showing up honestly, especially after something hard, and inviting others to do the same.
Skimpies didn’t grow because we had the loudest voice. It grew because we had the most open one.
A Reminder for Founders
If you’re building something and wondering why it’s not clicking yet, ask yourself this:
Are you leading with connection or control?
Are you talking to your community—or with them?
Are you letting joy guide you, even when it feels vulnerable?
Because when you choose joy—and invite others into it—you don’t just build a brand.
You build a community.
And that’s where real growth begins.
